i wonder if its at all possible to have a narrator that knows less than the reader? a narrator that knowingly or otherwise lies to the reader at every turn? one that confounds the reader on every page?
Is that possible?
i think it is. because the narrator isn't necessarily the author. the author only narrates what the narrator sees/thinks/hears. i don't know if this makes any sense to me. but i think it's especially possible when the narrator speaks from the first person, because although s/he is the one narrating, the observations s/he makes are more apparant to the reader than to the narrator in a strange sort of way. a reader may understand something better than the narrator. the narrator, afterall, is simply another charactor of the author's creation.
